About the Programme
The MA Sociology course will cover five courses each across three semesters and in the last semester, three courses will be offered alongside a dissertation. The course is directed at addressing social exclusion drawing on the perspectives of class, caste and gender. Through a study of social institutions and the roles of the agencies, concerns around politics, technology, identity and work are addressed. There will be intense engagement with the theory and the methodology to understand the various social objects. There is also a course on contemporary social worlds that offers a comparative perspective to gain insights about the historical, economic and cultural changes. They learn to deal with the different layers of the social realities. This course will enable them to choose careers in the fields of education, research, social work, advertising, media, creative writing, film making, visual and sound studies, Government jobs as well as entrepreneurial pursuits.
